Española Island

Paradise For Adventurers

One of the nicest and oldest sites in the Galapagos is Española Island. Two of our favorite Galapagos visitor destinations are located on this island. Long stretches of beautiful white coral sand makeup Gardner Bay, where people may sunbathe next to dozing and relaxed sea lions. After the supply of new lava dried up, erosion brought about by the weather started its unstoppable process, which has left Espaola exceptionally low-lying and flat in comparison to most other Galápagos islands.

Española may have been the first island to experience the emergence of plant life and the arrival of animals brought by prevailing winds from the mainland. Therefore, the first inhabitants of the Galapagos, the forebears of many species we observe in the archipelago today, may have lived on Española Island. The island originally formed on the volcanic point of Galapagos, near where Fernandina Island is today, in the west of the archipelago.

Española is the driest island in the Galapagos, hence there are many dry and transitional zones in its environment. The landscape is primarily flat with a few minor hills and prickly plant life. Unique animals like the stunning waved albatross and the vibrant Christmas iguanas may be found here on Española’s Island. On land and at water, there is virtually non stop action. Also, there are many visitor points in this Island. One of the most frequented tourist destinations in the Galapagos is Suárez Point. Here you can find Sally Lightfoot little Crabs hangin on black lava rocks and baby Sea Lions. Tourists often take pictures around this area.

Interesting facts about Española Island
